LCAS’ nose-mounted transition and boom assemblies carry the magnetometer sensor and requisite electronics. This modification consists of an externally mounted aluminum transition pylon assembly and brace assemblies witch support a composite boom assembly.
The nose boom and its attachment pylon are structures to carry magnetic and atmospheric survey equipment. The pylon mounts below the nose of the aircraft. This pylon is also designed to house scientific instruments for atmospheric monitoring, recording, etc both internally and externally. The nose boom is designed in two sections and the forward section can be replaced depending on which mission or set of instruments is required.
The aircraft can be flown with the just transition tube pylon assembly and first section of boom installed. When only the first boom section is installed the end cap from the removed section is used to close off forward end of the remaining section. The mod kit includes all the necessary doublers, support assemblies and attaching hardware, as well as leading edge and trailing edge fairings for the transition assembly.
