Lake Central manufactures custom survey equipment racks of many difference sizes and weight carrying capacity.  We manufacture and supply survey tow ropes for magnetic and electromagnetic birds for fixed and rotary wing aircraft.

Our most significant modification project to date was a wide variety of modifications to a Basler BT-67, a highly modified turbine powered DC-3.  www.baslerturbo.com

We were contract by aircraft owner, Alfred Wegener Institute of Bremerhaven, Germany, www.awi.de to modify aircraft for  research in Antarctic and Artic polar regions.  The aircraft was designated Polar 5 and is carrying out Scientific Missions for Germany and will be working with such diverse users as Environment Canada, Canadian Space Agency, NASA, NOAA, European Union plus a number of North American and European Universities. Our role is continued modifications of this versatile aircraft to meet future scientific requirements.

Last year's modifications included a nose boom for magnetic survey with an interchangeable atmospheric sensor head.  A tail mounted magnetic boom was installed which interchanges with a Sun Spectrophotometer instrument which is being added in the Spring of 2008.  We fitted the aircraft with upper and lower looking albedometers, upward and downward looking lidar.  Two large 6ft. operator controlled retracting doors in the belly to cover four large and two small openings in the fuselage to accommodate a variety of downward looking instruments.  The upper fuselage was fitted with two turrets to house upward looking instruments.  Four upward and downward scanning radiation sensors were fitted to the fuselage.  We also manufactured and installed a retractable Dropsonde Launcher in the cabin  that extends or retracts through the bottom of fuselage.

For the wings we designed and manufactured two pylons for each wing with NATO hard point attachments to carry a wide range of scientific instrumentation, for example we manufactured four PMS canisters, carried in pairs on two of the NATO mount pylons.  We designed and manufactured two large Ice Penetration Radar Antennas (EMR Antennas) carried on lower surface of each wing.

We are designing and manufacturing Ice Accumulation Radar housings to be carried on each outer wing NATO hard point pylons.  We are creating a mount to house a Grading Spectrometer/Photometer in upper fuselage surface looking through a fused quartz dome.  Also we are designing an installation for a CR2 Hygrometer,  installing a Radar Thermal Sensor AKT15, installing a methane detector along with our most challenging project the design, build and installation of  a Winch for a 250 lbs. electromagnetic bird along with necessary trapeze or trap to carry Bird under fuselage.
